What kind of hours do these guys work? If it's 60 hour weeks it sounds like a hellish lifestyle to have to deal with culture shock and long work weeks at the same time.
- parasitius 14y agoHauled up in apartment for 60 hours a week and going to restaurants or bar now and then with an entourage of familiar coworkers doesn't qualify 1% for coming in contact with the culture to cause culture shock. It's like knocking on the glass window of a lion pen at the zoo and claiming you bonded with the animals. Get real.
- jljackson 14y agoMost of the dev team works a very flexible 40 hrs. Some of the more senior folks work a bit more but its all because we want to. It would likely have been too much if we were pulling 60 hr work weeks.
- mrgriscom 14y agoWe also travel extensively for our work anyway -- projects in Africa, India, Latin America -- so we're used to setting up shop pretty much anywhere. And definitely in less hospitable circumstances than Sao Paulo. So that helped mitigate the culture shock factor somewhat.
