> Inspired by the concept of “a piece of cloth”
Ugh
- silversmith 11mo agoWait, it really does say that in the article. Wow.
- wredcoll 11mo agoThats the point where I started double checking for april fools
- biophysboy 11mo agoIts just a stiff translation of a marketing term. If you look up 一枚の布, you'll see a bunch of Miyake's clothes, where the whole gimmick is that they have no seams. A better translation probably would have been "inspired by the concept of seamless design"
- bobbiechen 11mo agoThat makes much more sense, even "a seamless piece of cloth" would have been much less ridiculous.
- biophysboy 11mo agoA more literal one-to-one translation would be "one sheet of cloth", which also would have been better.
- hlpn 11mo agoThat makes much more sense. Thank you.
- rgovostes 11mo agoEmphasizing a central concept/theme is common with Japanese brands, restaurants, events, etc. The translation is often slightly peculiar. For example the Osaka Expo theme is "Designing Future Society for Our Lives". Or the retail store f.k.a. Tokyu Hands says, "Our concept is 'Create your own life in your own way with what is available within reach.'"
