Steven Heller's Font of the Month: Archive Matrix
- stavros 11mo agoThis is a fantastic font. I'd like to do something with it, but I can't find a display that's low-res enough that the pixels show, but high-res enough that you can show a word at a decent size, and that you can drive the LEDs half-on as well. Does anyone know of such a display?
- picture 11mo agoThere are modular dot shaped led matrix blocks that are basically LEDs under a cast piece of resin that guides light. They're tillable and you can drive them with an FPGA and a smart shift register based constant current driver. They're generic so you can look around online. For example: https://www.jameco.com/z/SBM-2388ASRG-RG-Super-Bright-8x8-Dot-Matrix-LED-2-38-Square-Bi-Color-Red-Green-5mm-Dot-Column-Cathode_2306311.html https://www.jameco.com/z/SBM-2388ASRG-RG-Super-Bright-8x8-Do... However this is assuming your installation will be reasonably large. If it's too big, I recommend making your own array out of discrete LEDs. They sell LEDs with a built in milky diffuser that are suitable.
- stavros 11mo agoOh huh, you just reminded me I actually have one of those, thanks!
- alexpotato 11mo agoFor those that love fonts, SciFi and funny bloggers, can't recommend the below blog post that analyzes the various fonts in the movies Aliens enough: https://typesetinthefuture.com/2014/12/01/alien/ https://typesetinthefuture.com/2014/12/01/alien/ There are couple other posts for other movies as well.
