Same thing I observed (Eastern Europe). As a city dweller I was astonished how little free time people had in village, almost every second they were doing something. PS: The difference was though winters were "less" work, because everything is under snow. But they're still preparing for future all the time (the huge part of it is logging and wood chopping, which is easier in winter than summer).
