Gov Shutdown: US Army is advising its soldiers in Germany to go to food banks

- more_corn 1y agoIt’s not being cut. Military employees are not getting paid because congress is fighting about funding healthcare for people who don’t have insurance provided by their job. Like farmers and uber drivers and grocery clerks.
- FrustratedMonky 1y agoSorry. Not sure of terminology here "not being cut" doesn't equal " not getting paid" I was taking more high level view of the term, 'i'm not getting paid', being a 'cut'. Not sure of good word "delayed payment"?

- IAmBroom 1y agoBoth can be true. Most of NATO underdelivers on their payments. And the US treats its active military like cattle... Oops, forget that. Cattle aren't put on cheap diets.
- Zigurd 1y agoAmerica would pay a pretty high price were Russia to dominate Europe. That's a fair point regarding the UK. Poland has always understood the assignment, and this year Germany got on board. Ivan isn't 10 feet tall either.
- onlypassingthru 1y agoIn the age of drone warfare, does Britain even need a lot of young men? The half-life of a grunt seems pretty short in eastern Ukraine at the moment.

- atmavatar 1y agoReminder: while the Democrats are trying to signal they have some power to resist, the truth is that the Republican party can end the filibuster rule today and pass whatever budget bill they like without requiring a single Democrat vote. They had no problem carving out an exception to the filibuster rule when pushing through district court judges and later Supreme Court justices without Democrat support, so they can't even argue that they consider the filibuster sacrosanct: they don't. This government shutdown is exclusively a problem of Republican making.
- FrustratedMonky 1y agoIt plays well with the base. They want to destroy government, and this is helping. They want this. Keeping government open isn't something they want, let alone to fight for.

- rchaud 1y agoShould any enlisted personnel be looking for a new career, I understand there's a fully funded paramilitary group operating right here at home.
- Jamesbeam 1y agoSomeone in the Pentagon should quickly get the presidential crayon kit and send the Secretary of War a pretty hand-drawn picture why this is bad on the PC Venezuela Signal Group. I am not sure the Secretary knows the difference between Warrior Spirit and Warrior Spirits, which is, probably to his surprise no hard liquor brand,but the soul that leaves the body after your soldiers starved to death or died from embarrassment, having to fight over scraps with Ukrainian refugees and poor and/or old German people at a local food bank. For the old KGB Russians like Putin, this must be amazingly joyful to see. American Soldiers are advised to go to Food Banks, while the Commander-in-Chief could easily feed the whole army steak dinner for two months straight, flown in in his newly gifted private 747, with what he made in Crypto only during the first half of 2025.
