  Treat everything as a hustle to further oneself in life? Well, sure. Feudal courts in high class society also do this under nearly any other paradigm. So it's not just capitalism. Capitalism matters less than the hyper individualistic culture here. But one drives the other in this case (other things can drive individualism too).
