Personally, I like a forum for sorting things out peacefully without relying on the goodwill of the bully du jour. Your argument is not new and is exactly why enlightened absolute monarchs were fashionable at some point. It sounds good, but the problem is that this works as long as the monarch is good. When they aren’t, or aren’t any more, or their heir aren’t, then it’s horrible. Democracy is an exercise in optimising for the middle ground: sure, it’s not going to be as efficient as a competent autocracy, but it limits the worst case scenarios.
