While I agree, I do also see the problem they're trying to solve as being very real. I think a better answer would be find some way to flag actual experts as such and everyone else as "peanut gallery". Everyone would still be free to say what they want, but without the risk that we mistake the local meth aficionado for a cancer expert and get grandma killed. It would be hard or maybe impossible to do in a way that preserves privacy though.
