X.com silently deletes new likes likes on old posts
- fennec-posix 11mo agoAs far as I know, Twitter has always done this since the "Likes" were introduced. I don't think they're recorded in a permanent manner on who liked what, just the total number of likes per post as a counter.
- verdverm 11mo agohow would they show me my like history if not storing it?
- Otter-man 11mo agoSurprisingly it does show these posts on your "Likes" page in your profile. But they aren't marked as liked, and liking one will increase the like indicator.

The UI doesn't verify if the user is allowed to like because that's the backend's job. Tom Scott has a video on it. https://youtube.com/watch?v=RY_2gElt3SA https://youtube.com/watch?v=RY_2gElt3SA
- Otter-man 11mo agothis explains so much, thank you!
- someothherguyy 11mo agoplenty of users purge their own likes
- Suppafly 11mo agox.com doesn't even seem to really work anymore, i'm surprised they haven't lost all their users yet.
- Otter-man 11mo agoNo, it works just fine? And this particular problem i think is date pre-elon because people were complaining about disappearing likes for a few years.
- Suppafly 11mo agoMaybe through the app, but I get sent links to x things all the time and they just straight up don't load. Same thing with links to old x threads linked from different websites.
