1/3 of seats is a mandate?
- cosmicgadget 1y agoA not-horrible alternative: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/27/argentinas-midterm-election-hands-landslide-win-to-mileis-libertarian-overhaul.html https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/27/argentinas-midterm-election-... I guess the perception is that the growth of his party can be considered a mandate. But yeah, "mandate" and "free-market revolution" seem to indicate an editorial position.
- petesergeant 1y agoI think doubling your support to 41% probably counts in a fractured legislature.
- pseudalopex 1y agoA fractured legislature is evidence no one has a mandate. Increased support is notable. I never saw 41% of votes or 1/3 of seats called a mandate before.
- AnthonyMouse 1y agoIn countries with more than two viable parties, a single party getting 41% can be pretty significant.
- pseudalopex 1y agoSignificant and mandate are different words with different meanings. The implication I was ignorant of multi party systems was not founded.
- petesergeant 1y agoI think you have an overly specific idea of what mandate means. It's not a synonym for majority.
- sundaeofshock 1y agoWinning 40% in an election with 67.9% turnout isn’t exactly the will of the people here.
- petesergeant 1y agoIt is in a highly proportional multiparty voting system.
- foogazi 1y agoIf 41% is a mandate I’m sure they would have called 39% a mandate too It’s about the political optics What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger in their heads
- spwa4 1y agoWelcome to non-US countries with more than 2 parties.
