I'm sure the decline in openly identifying as some form of queer has nothing to do with how dangerous society has made things for them lately... it's similar to how almost all states have relatively consistently percentages of people watching gay/trans/queer porn even though the percentage of self-reported gay/queer/trans people is much lower in more conservative states.
