Those who accepted the 100 mile no constitution zone as part of the USA PATRIOT Act and who have not been protesting it the last 20 years let this happen. It was obvious it would be abused back when it was passed. It has been ever since in minor forms (see the 2000/2010s https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visible_Intermodal_Prevention_and_Response_team https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visible_Intermodal_Prevention_...). And now it is being wildly and blatantly abused and there's nothing that can be done. Both the USA PATRIOT Act and 2001 and 2002 authorization of use of military force were insultingly generic and need to be fully repealed. Maybe now we can finally get the support to do this.
