I think the first red flag for me would be that the user's reply completely mismatched with what OP wanted to know.
> Can you tell me which Url, your OS, and browser?
Kind regards,
Takuya
> Hey,
Thanks for your previous guidance.
I'm still having trouble with access using the latest version of Firefox on Windows
It's difficult to describe the problem so I've included a screenshot. [...]
Lots of users will ignore requests, but I think very few will make up requests that never happened. OP was asking for information, yet the user makes it sound as if OP had requested him to update the browser. That already makes it sound a lot as if the reply was prewritten and not an actual conversation.
Of course it's not foolproof and a phisher with more resources could have generated the reply dynamically.
- swiftcoder 1y agoI don't read the response that way - it reads like fairly reasonable wording for a frustrated and moderately technical user. "I'm still having trouble" as in "my problem hasn't magically resolved itself since the last email". And "using the latest version of Firefox" as in "I'm going to preempt the IT guy asking me to install updates".
- seb1204 1y agoTo me guidance is more than a simple reply asking for more information. This immediately stood out to me, flag.
- swiftcoder 1y agoIMO it's a fairly common ESL-phrasing for something like "thanks for your help"
- account42 1y agoIf your idea of common ESL-phrasing is Indian scam center idioms perhaps.
- swiftcoder 1y ago"Indian scam centre idioms" is just Indian-flavoured technical English. My Indian coworkers have made many of the same grammatical mistakes when they first arrive to work at a US firm
- freehorse 1y agoI am ESL and it stood out to me too
- indigo945 1y agoBesides, it answers two of the three questions: > Can you tell me which Url, your OS, and browser? > I'm still having trouble with access using the latest version of Firefox on Windows
