Intel fabs misusing J1 Visas
- hvb2 11mo agoIs a reddit post about a dozen or so people credible enough/impactful enough to warrant the post/title? Not exactly the thoroughly researched, nationwide impact. This seems more like 1 disgruntled person's opinion?
- avmich 11mo agoCould this be an indicator of a more widespread practice? Or is it likely that Intel is unique here?

- tarlinian 11mo agoThey're also wrong in suggesting that J-1 visas are intended to just be used for "cultural exchange". They are quite explicitly intended for use by trainees[1]. I assume these folks are intended to be trained in New Mexico so they can ramp the advanced packaging fab in Malaysia when they need to. - alephnerd 11mo ago> indicator of a more widespread practice Yep, but it is a side effect of the skills and wage gap. Packaging and Chip Design is high skill work (usually requires a bachelors degree) but low margins so wages tend to be at the lower end because much of the talent for both is in Asia and Israel.
