Ask HN: Why are Meta's Glasses being so openly promoted by popular Tech Blogs?
They are creepy, dystopian and dangerous but are being promoted as so wonderful. I can't figure.
- bigyabai 1y agoAll commercialized tech is creepy, dystopian and dangerous. Hasn't ever stopped tech reviewers, or tech customers.
- Bowes-Lyon 1y agoPopular tech blogs do not promote products because of the goodness of their hearts, but for money. Placing an article in a tech blog costs between $20,000 and $30,000, depending on the blog’s reputation, and everybody can do it. So, it is not that the tech blogs are particularly enthusiastic about the Glasses; it’s more that Meta is throwing money left and right to promote them.
- SoftTalker 1y agoIt's like product placement in TV shows and movies. It's all about creating or reinforcing the illusion that something is popular.

- Random09 1y agoMoney. And for the most part, tech blogs cannot just promote stuff that doesn't spy on you, because there is not much of it left to promote.
