- gtsnexp 1y agoIf I’m reading it correctly, the document doesn’t offer any concrete action plan; it just says something along the lines of 'the United Nations should be consulted'. Am I missing something? It’s rather anticlimactic...
- fred_is_fred 1y agoWhat's actually going to happen is someone like Peter Thiel will build some mechanism to signal back to them.
- noir_lord 1y agoOnly if the aliens have a feudal system where the wealthiest are the lords/ladies. If it turns out they are space democracies not so much.
- ithkuil 1y agoWhat if they are both? What if they didn't reach a global government and live in a dynamic political landscape composed of several government systems and variable peace/conflict periods?
- HelloUsername 1y agoI told you, We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune, we take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week. But all the decision of that officer must be approved at a bi-weekly meeting by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs.
- CamperBob2 1y agoJust wait. The message will turn out to be a trolling exercise on the part of Elon Musk. He's the only person with the means, opportunity, and evidently the motive to simulate a shitpost from Alpha Centauri.

- dotnet00 1y agoA popular sentiment related to this is that since we're on the only planet in the universe that we know to have the gift of life (and especially somewhat intelligent life), we have a duty to do our best to preserve it. If we find definitive proof of extraterrestrial intelligence, I wonder how many will decide that it's okay to do anything regardless of its effect on our ability to continue existing.
- frtime33 1y agoIf we find extraterrestrial life, it will change almost nothing. When the NYT published videos of UAPs, some people were fascinated for a short time and then gave it up.
- LoFiSamurai 1y agoThe photos published are hardly proof of life. This is a false equivalence.
- metalman 1y agothe way this is worded demonstrates hubris or egotism, but leaves out the very significant probability that we are far to stupid to recognise intelligence in the first place kind of like, since dogs can sense light, there for they understand that the little light way up high moving along in arcs, which they also umderstand, arcs that is, are a sattelite comunication systems I think the aliens are rooting for us, "come on.guys, come we know you can make a pulsar if .you .put .your, min, ok ok, perhaps take a break and evolve for another galactic half rotation and give bit another try"
