From reading the article it sounds like he didn't try doing a Time Machine restore until he got to Lion/Mountain Lion, but the Time Machine was created in Snow

From reading the article it sounds like he didn't try doing a Time Machine restore until he got to Lion/Mountain Lion, but the Time Machine was created in Snow Leopard. If he had installed SL, run Time Machine restore and then run the upgrade to Mountain Lion I don't think it would have thrown any issues. I've restored from various Time Machine backups in the past without any issues. I'm a happy Time Machine user.
