Nitro: Tiny but flexible init system and process supervisor
- zeech 1y agoSemi-related, here's a comparison of nitro and runit written by the author of nitro: https://leahneukirchen.org/blog/archive/2025/08/comparing-nitro-to-runit.html https://leahneukirchen.org/blog/archive/2025/08/comparing-ni...
- yjftsjthsd-h 1y agoAlright, kudos. I was going to ask "why this when systemd/runit/dinit exist", but the "Benefits over other systems" section is actually quite compelling. Feels a little like if someone read the docs for runit and then decided to write something a little better. Would like to see a fully worked example, whether in the form of an Alpine container that boots on this, or an Alpine/NetBSD VM that boots from it.
- milsebg 1y agoThat's pretty cool and looks way less complex than s6. Unlike s6, it does not seem to support dependencies, or did I miss something. How is it supposed to start services in the right order?
