There is very little danger of your fork advertising you, or your spoon selling your data to the highest bidder. Using non-free software involves a ton of trust in the companies that produce them. Using free software without auditing it also involves trust, but less (because at least it's possible to audit!)
- paulcole 1y agoI should add that I don’t care at all about my data being sold (to the highest bidder or otherwise). I also have a personal policy of paying for subscriptions (ad-free when possible) when they’re available. But if something changes and I have to switch then I have to switch. Not worth worrying about today!
- bigfishrunning 1y agoEven if you pay for it, there's really nothing stopping closed source software from selling your data. Especially Saas offerings.
- paulcole 1y agoYes and I literally don’t care if they sell my data.

- paulcole 1y agoIt's not a logical fallacy if I believe it.
- fsflover 1y agoIt's not a fallacy. You just don't understand that it's not about you but about the society and democracy.
- paulcole 1y agoSorry you must’ve shared the wrong link. The one you did share has this as the first sentence: > The nothing to hide argument is a logical fallacy Let me know which link I should be looking at that isn’t a fallacy.
