> One man in my parish is aged between 30 and 45, and in a bet he ate seven bowls—and that’s not counting the bowls of rice wine he drank. One old man, aged 64 or 65, said he had no appetite, and finished five bowls.
Surprisingly comical record-keeping.

- n1b0m 1y agoWell the part about the old man contains irony: he claimed to have no appetite, but his action of finishing five bowls of food is the opposite of what he said.
- kelipso 1y agoThe implication is that someone who says he has no appetite might typically eat five bowls of rice because of the norms of eating a large amount of food in Korea. Whether it's true or whatever, who knows, but that's what's being implied and illustrated in this example.
