They're not rare but you have to process them and basically only China does. No clue as to the share of the equipment that is rare earths but if you need a component you need it. Doesn't matter if it's small or in theory cheap. If it's unavailable you don't have a substitute. This has all been known for over a decade but no one invested in an alternate supply chain.
