President Trump creates export controls on "any and all critical software" Nov 1
- iamnothere 1y agoI wonder what this entails. Is an operating system critical? I would think so.
- cylinder714 1y agoThe OpenBSD project is based in Calgary, btw.
- dabockster 1y agoBut both Windows and Mac OS are developed largely in the US. Could Trump unintentionally bring about the year of the Linux desktop?
- anigbrowl 1y agoIsn't Linux widely adopted in China already?
- dabockster 1y agoFrom what I understand, only on the server level (just like the West). Desktops are still largely Windows or Mac.
- hulitu 1y ago> Could Trump unintentionally bring about the year of the Linux desktop? Linus lives in the US.
- iamnothere 1y agoI am hopeful that the US doesn’t attempt to force its sanctions enforcement upon “allies” as it has in other instances.
- rolph 1y agoit makes more sense when you get to see the actual title: "Trump puts extra 100% tariff on China imports, adds export controls on ‘critical software’"
- ggm 1y agoKerberos V? Or is this 3DES?
- burnt-resistor 1y agoTime to dust off "This shirt is a munition" vintage TinkGeek garb. The US needs to put locks on the foot-gun triggers before there are no toes or jobs left. And also, China is building tank-capable invasion barges and practicing in inner Mongolia how to raid Tapei's government buildings. Escalation and self-sabotage isn't helping. This is two malignant, geriatric, authoritarian narcissists slowly trying to drag the world into yet another world war while shuffling along with toilet paper stuck to their shoes while doing nothing to ensure lasting peace for everyone who lives after them. Xi, Trump, Bibi, Putin, and every other neofascist criminal substitute for a leader needs to go.
