Sidelines chat at UN was turning point for US president
A lot are talking about how useless the UN is due to vetos and such. But bringing parties in conflict together allows for such "after hours" talks that lead to real impact, and I think that aspect should not be dismissed.
This can be with the aid of neutral third parties which can provide a place where they can talk in private, QUNO[1] is one example I know of.

- jfengel 1y agoPeople like to equate the UN to the Security Council, which is only one tiny piece of it. The UN is also the World Health Organization, UNESCO, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and many more. Even the Security Council is more than just votes. The entire thing is a place to talk, and it's where deals get made. It's hard to take somebody's opinion on the UN seriously when they don't seem to know anything about it.
