Not every generator needs to be always on, but the generation needs to be relatively independent of external conditions, especially when there might be correlation between high usage at disadvantageous external conditions (for example it’s colder and less sun in winter). Recognizing this does not mean one is hostile to renewables, even though some people that are hostile use this talking point dishonestly.
