I mean it’s in your comment. The usability studies mean more people prefer it the other way. You SHOULD cater your default style to something that’s more widely usable. And no, I absolutely do NOT want the content I’m reading to be full width on my 32” monitor. I have loads of other sites that I’m jumping between which do need to take up the full space. I mean newspapers have a narrower columnar layout than any website and they’ve been around for centuries.
