- AnimalMuppet 1y agoAllegedly from replacing batteries.
- esskay 1y agoOften poor planning or just lithium based batteries far too close to the physical servers. OVH's massive fire a couple of years ago in one of the most modern DC's at the time was a prime example of just how wrong it can go.
- bell-cot 1y agoAssume the PHB's who wouldn't spring for off-site backups (vs. excuses are "free") also wouldn't spring for fire walls, decently-trained staff, or other basics of physical security.
- filloooo 1y agoTheir decade-old NMC li-ion UPSs were placed 60cm away from the server racks.
- BonoboIO 1y agoEasy, some electronic fault and look at OVH with WOODEN FLOOR and bad management decisions. But of course the servers had automatic backups … in the datacenter in the same building. A few companies lost EVERYTHING and had to close, because of this.
