A List of Hacker News's Undocumented Features and Behaviors
- smj-edison 1y agoThis is a really nice list! I didn't even know half of those links existed.
- immibis 1y agoI've just been informed that my account is shadowbanned from voting and flagging. This is not a possible behaviour on the list, and should be added.
- NaOH 1y agoBest is to contact hn@ycombinator.com to get an explanation or a correction.
- immibis 1y agoI did. That's how I know my account is shadow-restricted because I didn't flag equal numbers of posts from all political sides - they told me so. Doesn't matter if some political sides generate a lot more flaggable posts - still have to flag equal numbers.
- dang 1y agoThat's not what I said, and I think it's pretty dodgy to abuse email conversation in this way.
- immibis 1y agoFrom hn@ycombinator.com: > Yes, we turned off the flags from your account at some point. Most probably this is because they seemed politically motivated. Of course we can't know this for sure, but when accounts seem largely to be flagging for political reasons, we tend to make the flags not count. We do this, btw, regardless of the political position they seem to be coming from.

- maplethorpe 1y agoI was hoping this page would tell me how to italicize words. I still don't know how.
