As someone who is concerned about how artists are supposed to earn a living in a ecosystem where anyone can trivially copy any style effortlessly, it does sound better than the status quo? The fact that LLMs are trained on humans data yet the same humans receive no benefits from it (cannot even use the weights for free, even if they unwillingly contributed to it existing), kind of sucks. What alternative is there? Let companies freely slurp up people's work and give absolutely nothing back?
