Ask HN: Has Hacker News been unusable on Chrome for anyone else?
I'm running into a frustrating issue where Google Chrome slows down or goes into a loading state while reading big threads on hackernews. (For example this post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41002195
or this post:https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45427982
)
All I have to do is start clicking the minimize button on threads and my entire PC stops responding.
I have a really beefy setup so its most likely not from there
Has anyone else run into this?
So far been able to replicate on:
- Windows 11, Chrome v140.0.7339.208
Also tried incognito mode in Chrome, disabled all extensions.
Interestingly, doesn't happen on macOS.

- sss111 1y agoOh wow. I'm on 64GB, Ryzen 5.
- FergusArgyll 1y agoIntel for the w :) /s On a more serious note; chatgpt thinks that it may be caused by GPU driver issues - which would explain why your setup is having a harder time (my gpu is intel standard whatever...) so it suggests turning off hardware acceleration.
