Not at all, but they already approved the funding that the government operated under until yesterday. So choosing not to this time which will only give the president cover to blame the democrats for something else and if the shutdown lasts, provides optics that the federal government didn’t really need those non-essential workers anyway.
To me, as an independent, it comes off as a childish tantrum by the democrats.
- _DeadFred_ 1y agoAnd since then Trump has said it doesn't matter what they agree to fund, he can personally choose/change/pull how funding is allocated later. Who would make a 'deal' with someone who has refused to honor past deals?
- cosmicgadget 1y agoThe president blames the democrats for anything and everything. Perhaps you've noticed. So this isn't much of a propaganda coup except for the very rare "independent" such as yourself who decides that this one is on them. The democrats are drawing a negotiating line at giving people access to healthcare. Quite the tantrum.

- cosmicgadget 1y ago> And the democrats regularly call the GOP and GOP supporters “Nazis”, “Hitlers”, “Fascists”, “trash”, “deplorables”, etc My dude this is irrelevant to whether or not the dems are handing the president PR ammo. Try to stay on topic. > they want certain people to continue to have access to the ACA packages Whew, glad you added an italicized certain. Was totally confusing when I wrote it. > holding the government funding hostage Art of the deal, baby. Many such cases.
- kcplate 1y agoIf you wrote “certain” I guess I didn’t see it, I thought you just wrote “people” and were over generalizing what the policy in question really was…so my bad. As an “art of the deal” thing, I feel bad for Schumer. He is between a rock and a hard place. I have never seen a politician in a greater position of weakness. Both with Trump and with his constituents. Trump can’t run again, so he doesn’t care about 2028 votes. He was impeached twice, spent four years getting hounded legally from the opposition party, telegraphed his entire intention for a second term and still managed to win re-election soundly, flipped the senate, preserved the house majority, and doesn’t care and even dares Schumer to shutdown the government. Trump definitely didn’t run on “business as usual”. He ran on the exact opposite. So I am not sure why Schumer seems to think he has any leverage with drawing a line in the sand on a business as usual Biden immigration healthcare policy. Meanwhile, he has the young attractive popular socialist nipping at his heels who makes his noisiest constituents happy and the largest city in his state excited to elect an actual Marxist. Poor bastard.
- cosmicgadget 1y agoAside from the propaganda nonsense like "hounded legally", "immigration healthcare policy", and "actual marxist" you are spot on. The only thing congressional dems have going for them is Trump's association with Epstein.
- kcplate 1y agoNonsense? Which one?
- cosmicgadget 1y agoJeffrey.
- speff 1y agoI saw an interesting fact the other day. Not one democratic politician has apparently ever called the GOP Nazis or Trump Hitler. Can't find any examples of "trash" either. There was the infamous "deplorables" example by Clinton, however that was for a subset of GOP voters - not all of them. It mostly seems to be the peanut gallery which uses that language - but never the leaders. So I'm left to rhetorically wonder, who's pushing the narrative that Dem politicians use that language? I even had coworkers who told me that Pelosi and Schumer are stoking the fires by calling our president Hitler. And yet they never said that...
- kcplate 1y agoStrange…when I google “democratic leaders referring to republicans as nazis or fascists” seems to bring up quite a few results. Biden, Gore, Pritzker, Harris, quite a few more peppered about among the Democratic Party elected officials.
- speff 1y agoI said Nazi/Hitler comparisons. Fascist fits the bill as much as socialist does for Democrats. Gore (retired) said it and apologized afterwards. Pritzker made the comparison yes. So...that's one? A literally-who to most lay people, but yea, it is one Democratic politician. I see your one Illinois Governer and raise you one US President: > "These people are running a Gestapo administration. It's the only thing they have. And it's the only way they're going to win, in their opinion..." > "Every time the radical left Democrats, Marxists, communists and fascists indict me, I consider it actually a great badge of honor.... Because I’m being indicted for you"
- cosmicgadget 1y agoDon't forget Vance called Trump "America's Hitler".
