You find the most crazy, unhinged, out-there thing said by a Democrat/Republican, and you use that to paint all of them as crazy, unhinged, completely out of touch with reality. Meanwhile, the other side is busily doing the same thing to your side.)
You can do the same thing with religion, economics, even sports.

This only works when you assume every person is the same. The POTUS saying these unhinged things makes it hard to discount this as some fringe argument. Especially when Congress and the SCOTUS do nothing to check it.
