What Republicans wanted was to continue funding the government, so no, Democrats should not have conceded to this. The Government is too bloated and needs some serious cuts. This gives Trump the golden opportunity to get it done.
It may not be the popular choice amongst republicans in congress, but this was entirely the right thing for the country, and I'm very grateful that Democrats got it done.
- dannersy 1y agoYou are naive if you think just funding the government is all they wanted. Additionally, no, the government isn't bloated and their reckless cuts to the federal government has been, and will continue to be, devastating. They have realized this themselves by trying to emergency hire back (and failing to do so) fired workers.
- flanked-evergl 1y ago> You are naive if you think just funding the government is all they wanted. This is literally what a clean CR does. It continues funding the government. https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5529740-senate-democrats-spending-bill-shutdown/ https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5529740-senate-democrats... > “We are just 14 hours away from a government shutdown. The House has passed a clean, nonpartisan continuing resolution to fund the government until November the 21st. The president is ready to sign it. Senate Democrats are standing in the way,” Thune said on the Senate floor Tuesday morning.
- pseudalopex 1y agoFunding the government means funding the government. Not allowing the president to decide what is funded and what is not.
- flanked-evergl 1y agoIt was a clean CR. The executive branch powers are what they are, I get that Democrats are supper bummed that people don't want them running the executive branch, but the people wanted Trump, and Trump can use the powers given to him by the constitution as he sees fit. All that being said, this really is non-sarcastically, non-ironically, the best things the Democrats have done this century. I'm really grateful.
- ethbr1 1y ago> but the people wanted Trump 49.9% of the voting "people" I know Trump likes to play fast and loose with conflating the electoral college and popular vote, but it's accurate to say he barely won his electoral college landslide.
