- ronsor 1y agoThat's funny. I see half of everyone on HN being critical of AI, often unfairly so, but we only ever notice the people we disagree with. I'm guilty of this as well, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this.

- adastra22 1y agoIt isn’t a dichotomy. It is possible for AI to be useful, not a scam, yet also overhyped by people who do not understand it.
- dang 1y ago"Please don't post insinuations about astroturfing, shilling, bots, brigading, foreign agents and the like. It degrades discussion and is usually mistaken. If you're worried about abuse, email hn@ycombinator.com and we'll look at the data." https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://hn.algolia.com/?sort=byDate&dateRange=all&type=comment&storyText=false&prefix=true&page=0&query=by:dang%20astroturf https://hn.algolia.com/?sort=byDate&dateRange=all&type=comme...
- zwnow 1y agoWhich is weird given that AI critique usually gets down voted while the frontpage is full of "look what this new model can do" posts every day.
- dang 1y agoYou may be the first person I've ever seen making this point! besides myself making it ad nauseum: https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&query=by%3Adang%20notice%20dislike&sort=byDate&type=comment https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&que... (or maybe I just haven't noticed the others because I agree with them)
- eurekin 1y agoIm a big AI/ML enthusiast (published one paper!) and was always flabbergasted to see scientists go off the typical provable/ testable lane and venture into philosophical and emotional territories
- dang 1y ago"Please don't sneer, including at the rest of the community." It's reliably a marker of bad comments and worse threads. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html p.s. HN is pretty evenly divided on AI, and if one side has the advantage, it's probably the anti.

- emil-lp 1y agoStuart Russell said AGI is coming and that we will get 45 trillion dollars from them. That's what I'm waiting for. (He didn't specify when or how the money will get here, but I'm betting that I'll get my fair share.)
- YesThatTom2 1y agoI (and I’m being serious) assumed AGI would break into the world’s financial institutions and steal the 45 trillion.
- adastra22 1y agoHyperinflation?
- tim333 1y agoStuart was saying 15,000 tn dollars here https://youtu.be/z4M6vN31Vc0?t=1420 https://youtu.be/z4M6vN31Vc0?t=1420 You cheque will be in the post shortly.
