There are at least 3 completely distinct actions at stake here, and we should not pretend they are the same: 1. Taking pictures/videos for personal use. 2. Taking pictures/videos for internet fame/money. 3. Taking pictures/videos as a check on abuse of power. Most opposition now is due to #2, sometimes under the guise of #3; #3 also has divisions between "is it {illegal,unethical,immoral,weird}?"
