IE7, IE8 and IE9 zero-day exploit
- engtech 14y agoDoes anyone know of a better landing page for convincing people to leave Internet Explorer? (specifically, aging relatives) Browse Happy is the only one I know of. http://browsehappy.com/ http://browsehappy.com/
- w1ntermute 14y agohttp://browsehappy.com/?locale=en http://browsehappy.com/?locale=en, for those who don't speak 日本語. Interesting to see a Japanese site like this, considering that the Japanese aren't very enthusiastic about using alternate browsers.
- wtetzner 14y agohttp://browsehappy.com/ http://browsehappy.com/ is in English for me.
- w1ntermute 14y agoThis is what I see: http://i.imgur.com/DRm13.jpg http://i.imgur.com/DRm13.jpg
- Zirro 14y agoI get it in my native language, Swedish, which means that they are doing some kind of detection based on the requests your browser is sending, or based on your IP. If you don't live anywhere near Japan, nor have configured your OS/Browser for this language, I would guess their system for detecting certain region-specific IP's is outdated or broken.
- matthewowen 14y agoSetting language based on IP address is... terrifyingly inappropriate.
- TazeTSchnitzel 14y agoIt was in German for me! I think they're poorly checking Accept:
- jiggy2011 14y agoYour best bet might just be to install a different browser and see if they notice. There is probably an opportunity here to create a firefox or chrome extension that makes the basic UI Mimic Internet Explorer exactly so people don't notice.
- w1ntermute 14y ago> There is probably an opportunity here to create a firefox or chrome extension that makes the basic UI Mimic Internet Explorer exactly so people don't notice. Or easier yet, just install Chrome Frame.
- jiggy2011 14y agoThat's only going to work for sites that explicitly require it (i.e don't work in IE). So they're still going to be using IE 99% of the time.
- w1ntermute 14y agoThat's easy to fix: http://www.labnol.org/software/force-google-chrome-in-internet-explorer/9998/ http://www.labnol.org/software/force-google-chrome-in-intern...
- eckyptang 14y agoThat's actually slightly rude if you ask me.
- protomyth 14y agoUnfortunately, quite a lot of the online testing and school support sites won't work with anything else.
- nthitz 14y agoThis was on the frontpage yesterday... ? Microsoft has already issued a patch..
- freehunter 14y agoDo you have a link to the patch? The latest I know of is the security advisory saying they're looking into it and a workaround that's not really a patch. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/advisory/2757760 https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/advisory/275776...
- drhowarddrfine 14y agoI've not heard of any patch either.
- muppetman 14y agoI believe Microsoft are saying if you install EMET and enable it for IE, you'll be safe. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2458544 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2458544
- freehunter 14y agoThat's the workaround that's not really a patch that I was talking about. EMET is a very cumbersome system to work with in my experience, and not something a consumer would put up with.
- yuhong 14y agoThey just posted this: http://blogs.technet.com/b/msrc/archive/2012/09/18/additional-information-about-internet-explorer-and-security-advisory-2757760.aspx http://blogs.technet.com/b/msrc/archive/2012/09/18/additiona...
