Couldn’t you have a system where the AI makes a recommended diagnosis but a doctor needs to be the one to actually diagnose? Then you have expert oversight and accountability backed up by tooling that can help with their blind spots.
- nis0s 1y agoSure, but if the goal is you’d like to reduce physician case load, then some patients might be seen by some combination of registered nurses and/or AI. Regardless, accountability frameworks and liability models will need to account for offloading decisions and work from human oversight.
- bookofjoe 1y agoCurrently in Britain's NHS, almost all first visits to a GP practice consist of contact ONLY with a PA/RN, who takes a history, performs an examination, and prescribes medication. Seeing a physician is the exception rather than the rule.
