Show HN: WordDrop – my first mobile game (Tetris and Scrabble hybrid)
Hi everyone, this is my first game launch!
WordDrop is a hybrid between Tetris and Scrabble where letters fall and you build words under time pressure.
•Built in Unity (C#), inspired by classic falling-block puzzlers.
•Free to play, no ads, jump right into the action.
•iOS App Store link: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6747409372 https://apps.apple.com/app/id6747409372
I am a self taught programmer and I’d love feedback on the gameplay, design, or even the technical side. Happy to answer questions about how I built it!
I’m also considering using WordDrop as a centerpiece in my portfolio as I work toward a career in game development. If you have thoughts on how it presents as a portfolio piece — or what recruiters/studios might look for — I’d love that feedback too.
- bob1029 1y agoCongrats on shipping to Apple's ecosystem. The fact that you can handle this is a great start. I think this is really good for a first game. Have you thought about getting into platforms like Steam or are you trying to stick with the iOS/App Store? What about branching out into additional genres? From a game business perspective, word/puzzle games are difficult to turn a profit on - but not impossible. If I were a studio boss I'd be looking to see if you could take your game across multiple platforms & regions, or if you were able to branch out into more challenging genres (i.e., fire up that URP 3D project template).
- gimlithedoge 1y agoThank you! I have not considered bringing it to steam but I appreciate your feedback and will consider this option, as well as checking out learning 3d! This seems like a good path for me :)
