I think you've hit on half the actual issue.
The other half is that a properly guided AI is exponentially faster at junior tasks than a junior engineer. So much so that it's no longer in anyone but the junior engineer's interest to hand off work to them.
- Ensorceled 1y agoThis is what I've been finding. Currently, if I have a junior level task, I take the email I would have sent to a junior developer explaining what I want and give it to ChatGPT/Claude/etc and get a reasonably good solution that needs as many feedback loops as the junior dev would have needed. Except I got that solution in a few minutes.
- yeasku 1y agoI have been reading this here since 2021. At the same time it gets better every day. But I cant hire a company to create software for me 10 times faster and cheaper than 5 years ago. I am so tired of lies.

- WalterSear 1y agoIt's quite simple: Nobody is lying and nobody who is any good is going to be nickle and dimed at a chop shop for long.
- yeasku 1y agoWhat? Where is all the software made by ai? Where are the videogames? Where is the Office killer? If ai enables you people so much I would expect software making to have skyroketed. It has nor happend.
- WalterSear 1y agoI don't know, I don't entirely understand it either, but I think people are just impatient. AI coding has only hit it's stride in the last ~6 months. And there's a huge part of the business process that isn't coding, isn't necessarily amenable to being sped up. All I can tell you is that it's happening right now, every day, on my desk. I am part of that software explosion that you can't see.
- yeasku 1y agoYou are telling me I have been reading about AI coding only for 6 months? I feel I have been reading for years.
- WalterSear 1y agoNo, I'm saying the AI coding tools only started bearing serious fruit recently.
- yeasku 1y agoI have been reading exactly that here for the last 5 years.
- a96 1y agoNot arguing, but a few facts: Most vibe coded things are web sites. Not games, though surely assets are being generated as we speak. MS Office is a product of corruption, not developent, it can't be killed outside of political means.
- yeasku 1y agoThe tech that create nosense code is mostly used where code never trows exceptions. Makes sense.
- Ensorceled 1y agoI didn't say I was 10x faster so I'm not sure why you are accusing me of lying. What AI does is replace most of the junior engineers, some of the intermediate engineers and speed up your senior engineers. That's why you are seeing massive layoffs across the industry.
