I was hoping for a Node.js alternative. One question, have you thought about using https://github.com/samshull/node-proxy https://github.com/samshull/node-proxy instead of searching through the environment to find binaries? Using .get() you would only need to identify programs that are requested, rather than knowing them all up front.
