My experience has been quite different. Most places I have worked at have been good at selecting people who are very empathetic, and definitely an high degree of empathy for managers and understanding that their job involves balancing interesting, often conflicting ones. The “common” experience is that managers are not very good and empathetic. Maybe the problem is indeed with the managers and how our systems make them so to begin with.
