Estonia invokes NATO Article 4
- Animats 1y agoThis is a very big deal. Russia has, in the last few days, made military probes against Estonia, Poland, and Finland, all NATO countries. This may be the beginning of World War III.
- ben_w 1y agoI was about to say that starting a war with even just a handful of these countries in isolation and without full NATO protection would be a really dumb decision for Russia and Putin couldn't be that dumb, and then I remembered people were also saying "he can't be dumb enough to start a war with Ukraine" right before he did that, too.
- Animats 1y agoThe intent may be to stop support for Ukraine from NATO countries.
- jacquesm 1y agoTrue, but it is playing with fire.
- Animats 1y agoOnly if Putin doesn't have a hold over Trump.
- jacquesm 1y agoTrump won't be able to stop Swedish/Danish/Polish/Estonian/Finnish militaries from defending EU soil from these kinds of intrusions. Whether putin has or does not have a hold over Trump is no longer relevant I think, US politics is so far down the toilet I don't think anybody here realistically believes that things will get better on their own, we're all just hoping that the US as a nation survives. For all our sake I hope it does too but it looks pretty grim.
- hypertele-Xii 1y agoRussians killed all the rich and smart people in their revolutions. Only the dumb ones remain. Russia should be assumed to make dumb decisions.
