Hi John, whatever I post from http://ahmetalpbalkan.com/blog http://ahmetalpbalkan.com/blog gets rejected. I am not sure it is bare domain name ban or URI wildcard ban.
Error I get:
Stop spamming us. You're wasting your time.
- JohnHaugeland 14y agoSo you were extremely frequently placing posts from your personal blog on HN, and ignored it while it warned you you were getting spammy. Then you reached out directly to Paul Graham, and he eventually stopped responding. Now you're asking the public? Sounds like you had a lot of warnings, bro. I mean, I hope this gets fixed for you, but, you had to know this was coming, because you're telling us about all the red flags you got.
- GFischer 14y agoTo be fair, his recent posts don't look like spam, but have a low chance to be upvoted either. I guess he overdid it with submissions, and pg banned him. I haven't had much success with my submissions either, but most weren't of much interest here either (as shown by the lack of upvotes :) ).
- alpb 14y agoAssume you are John Gruber of daringfireball.net, wouldn't you be allowed to publish good posts you have written? What kind of throttling is that? I was not posting most of the blogs posts essays I have written, I was only posting essay-ish and hacker culture-related entries. There you go, JGC is posting his own entries http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4521682 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4521682 I didn't know this was coming and I asked for a "contact" that I would use to reach out and solve the problem. I didn't ask the public to remove ban on my website. Read the description first please.
- ColinWright 14y agoWell, I've gone to have a look at your blog, and it doesn't really seem to contain much that I would choose to read. I'm not necessarily your typical reader here, so I'm certainly not representative, but it's a data point. There's nothing about coding, or tools, and the news that's there is easily obtained elsewhere, probably earlier. It's a blog - it's your comments about what's going on. While of itself that's no reason to be banned, once it has got banned (for whatever reason) there is no real evidence or reason to unban it. As I say above, this is just my reaction - perhaps others will chip in with their opinions.
- alpb 14y agoSo is Hacker News banning personal blogs according to their not-so-rich content? I have written a blog post, I thought it is about startups or tech and posted to HN. Man, yesterday there was a politic news (US representatives shoot in Libya) at the #1 of the front page. How the heck is this about hacker culture, you tell me? Such a thing would be certainly called arbitrary "censorship".
- ColinWright 14y agoI'm just telling you what I, as an outsider, see when I look at your blog. I have nothing to do with whether things are banned or not, whether they're popular or not, whether they're on topic or not, or whether they get flagged or not. You asked a question, and I replied to try to help you get some understanding and/or perspective on how others may view your blog and your submissions. The question of on-topic versus off-topic is debated reasonably often here, and it gets seriously tedious. That's why meta-discussions and off-topic stuff (for some definition, often changing) gets flagged and often quickly disappears because of the flags. One thing I do observe, though, is that things get upvoted when they add information to a topic. Simple statements about stuff, and people's largely content-free reactions to stuff, rarely get upvoted, and often get flagged. Yes, you've written blog posts about what you think about technology and startups. Good. you post them here and they're not getting any upvotes, and now you find that the domain is banned. You ask for it to be unbanned, but don't want to understand what might have got it banned in the first place. Fine, your prerogative. I won't try to help again.
