I really have to emphasize that nobody should ever install an extension like this. In exchange for a cheap chuckle you are letting a random individual have the access to read and modify the contents of every website you view. And as long as they don't change the permissions they can silently update the extension whenever they want. If you think this is okay, you should not ever work on anything involving security or private data access, ever.

This is a good point, in particular regarding the updates that you do not know happened. This is also true for a lot of modern greenfield applications where for the legitimate ones this is a blessing and a nightmare for the malicious ones.
