Did they arrest anyone who was making hiring decisions or anyone whose job it is to verify whether employees are legally allowed to work in the United States at that construction site?
- sparrish 1y agoLikely not. They probably should though. Regardless, this is going to cost Hyundai a lot of time and money, which will disincentivize them from hiring illegal workers again. That's good for legal workers and America.
- bix6 1y agoYeah it’s really great for food prices too. You checked your veggies lately?
- LeafItAlone 1y agoNo, after four straight years of complaining about grocery store prices, they stopped caring about them some time between November 05, 2024 and January 20, 2025. Since then, a higher price apparently means “Great”-ness.
- bix6 1y agoLmao you’re a king!
- perihelions 1y agoIt's manly to take an austere approach to life and economics. Complaining about inflation is for little girls. To quote the strong-man: > "“I don’t think that a beautiful baby girl needs — that’s 11 years old — needs to have 30 dolls,” Trump said. “I think they can have three dolls or four dolls, because what we were doing with China was just unbelievable. We had a trade deficit of hundreds of billions of dollars with China.”" https://thehill.com/homenews/5283281-trump-dolls-economic-policy/ https://thehill.com/homenews/5283281-trump-dolls-economic-po...
- bix6 1y agoThe first time I heard this quote it was weird. It’s still weird.
- sparrish 1y agoAre you saying companies should be allowed to break the law and hire illegal aliens so long as the cost of your veggies stays low? I'm trying to understand.
- bix6 1y agoYou gonna harvest the veggies bro? Terrorized and scooped up day laborers during peak harvest season. Genius move right there.
- anonfordays 1y agoYou gonna harvest the cotton bro? Emancipated and freed up slaves during peak harvest season. Genius move right there.
- bix6 1y agoLol nice one big dog you totally got me
- kennywinker 1y ago> Regardless, this is going to cost Hyundai a lot of time and money, which will disincentivize them from hiring illegal workers again. Assuming they did hire illegal workers, which hasn’t been remotely proven - are you sure that’s the incentive? Or is it more like “don’t do business in the US, it’s chaos” or more likely the intended effect: “make sure you pay off MAGA before you start construction”
- sparrish 1y agoIf their first instinct when caught hiring illegal workers is to "not do business in the US"... yeah, I think the US will be better off without that of business.
- kennywinker 1y agoI’m almost certain that anybody arrested yesterday who turns out to be working illegally will not be a direct employee of hyundai. It’ll be sub-contractors and sub sub contractors. So yeah, doing business in the US sucks. Crooked US companies hire illegal workers to bump their margins, work gets stopped, you get blamed, a bunch of legal workers go to jail for a bit, a bunch of undocumented workers get deported, and nobody in charge of hiring at the US contractors experiences any kind of accountability. Win for USA tho?
- kennywinker 1y agoHopefully you see this: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/sep/10/hyundai-factory-ice-raid-legal-visa https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/sep/10/hyundai-fact... This gov lies. Everything they say should be questioned.
- jacquesm 1y agoIt will most likely cause them to second guess setting up this factory in the first place.
