And anti-immigration policies are suprisingly popular even in non-blue collar circles, because you can sell it as "fighting foreign cultural influence", and a lot of people (globally) are quite convinced that their culture/values are superior (this is true across the political spectrum, too, however lots of groups will only admit to this indirectly).
