Tesla Master Plan Part 4
- andsoitis 1y agoWe are building the products and services that bring AI into the physical world. Similar to living organisms, and unlike traditional AI, which operate in abstract digital environments, embodied AI enables robots to learn by doing. It seems very plausible to me that the next step function change in AI is if you can connect perception, cognition, and action through direct physical interaction with the world. But more than anything, what stands out to me is the optimism in improving life for humans as articulated by their guiding principles.
- Zigurd 1y agoTesla could possibly claim to participate in this shiny future, if only they had the geospatial data that Google has. Lack of real world data is why FSD sucks.
- jqpabc123 1y agoLack of real world data is why FSD sucks. All the data in the world can't really fix FSD because driving is a dynamic activity filled with unique, constantly evolving conditions. FSD sucks because it is poorly engineered. It has no redundancy. It is built around a single point of failure --- vision. If this fails for any reason (sunlight, darkness, rain); it is essentially driving blind. Tesla's engineers understand this but apparently Muck doesn't --- his main skill is marketing and salesmanship (targeting investors) --- not engineering.
- Zigurd 1y agoAll true. I am pointing out another dimension in which FSD faces a large obstacle to working well enough to be a real product.
- nabla9 1y ago1. Car company (x) 2. energy company .. 3. robo taxis (by 2019) 4. robots 5. manufacturing company Less than 10% of Tesla's value is in its existing car and battery business. The company's car business is being left behind by the competition. Tesla's revenue hasn't grown in three years, losing market share and not producing new models. Chinese companies are far ahead in battery technology. Rest is hype. ps. Google, Amazon Robotics, Hyundai/Boston Dynamics, even Nvidia are ahead of Tesla in robotics research.

- jqpabc123 1y agoIt seems that Tesla's real strength is producing grandiose projections for success in it's ever changing target market. As an example, in 2024 they projected a 30% increase in auto sales for 2025. Back in reality, sales thus far this year have reportedly declined by double digits.
