- mdhb 1y agoIt’s actually an incredibly well established resistance tactic for what it’s worth. Just to give a specific real life example, when the IRA were fighting the British one of the tactics they would use for some time was to send their female volunteers into the bars where the British soldiers would go drinking on a Friday night to flirt with them and convince them to leave with the girls thinking they would fuck. When they finally got back to the apartment where she said she lived the IRA team would appear to finish the job. You might well argue (I would even say rightly with the benefit of hindsight) that that’s a shitty tactic but that same group of people are now the largest legitimate political party in Ireland and Northern Ireland as far as I know. But as a larger point, when your job becomes snatching innocent people off the streets with no right to a fair trial to send them to a dungeon in another country to be tortured and they have no hope of escape… I mean… you should probably expect violence in response to that. I don’t know what on earth gave you the idea that people would just see that happening on a daily basis and just respond with marching in the streets. A huge chunk of people would have no problem seeing that as a legitimate response. History is absolutely filled with those examples.
- _mlbt 1y agoWould it be okay if people started “resisting” illegal immigrants in the same way? We don’t do vigilante justice in this country. All of you justifying the attempted murder of ICE agents are sick in the head. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though, there are a lot of people who wished that President Trump’s assassin had actually succeeded. The far left is developing a frightening violence problem. Murdering people is not the answer.
- mdhb 1y agowould it be ok if people started killing others for coming from a different country? Sorry was that your question? I think you might have taken just one too many red pills there buddy. Maybe get some sleep instead.
- dns_snek 1y ago> Would it be okay if people started “resisting” illegal immigrants in the same way? Attacking the powerless underclass isn't political resistance, that's just plain old xenophobic violence and tyranny. > We don’t do vigilante justice in this country. What a wise, noble, and rational position to take when your side is in control of the official government offices and perpetrating unconstitutional and otherwise unlawful violence against anyone deemed to be undesirable. Unlawful and unconstitutional violence without a due process is the definition of vigilante justice. The fact that it's being perpetrated by people in uniforms doesn't legitimize it unless you believe in autocracy.
- kelseyfrog 1y agoYour concern regarding potential violence against ICE personnel is understandable; however, describing all opponents as "unhinged lunatics" conflates unlawful violence with legitimate political resistance. Given ICE's documented record of controversial practices, it is unsurprising that strong opposition exists. A more precise distinction between protest, civil disobedience, and criminal acts would clarify your position. By resorting to broad disparagement, your argument is weakened rather than strengthened.
- _mlbt 1y agoI’m not describing all opponents as unhinged lunatics. I’m talking about the violent far left that does things like ambush and attempt to murder ICE agents. This is why I’m against anyone attempting to doxx them. If you want to peacefully protest or lobby Congress to change the laws these ICE agents are enforcing, or work to reform immigration laws to create easier legal pathways to citizenship, that would all be perfectly acceptable. Advocating for violence, lawlessness, and murder is something else entirely.
- myvoiceismypass 1y ago> I’m talking about the violent far left that does things like ambush and attempt to murder Surely you think all the Jan 6 Insurrectionists should be punished as well, right? Did you see what violence they inflicted on the capital and the police protecting it? Or do you actually see people like Ashley Babbit as heroes too?
- _mlbt 1y agoEveryone should be prosecuted and fairly tried for any crimes that they committed on January 6th. I have no issue with that.
