CPU's have stagnated. 3 years ago, I bought a 12900k secondhand because it was near the fastest single core and I basically never max out on multi core. Every time I think about upgrading, I check the benchmarks and decide it's not worth the hassle. Even now, almost 4 years after the 12900k's release, it's only 13% slower than the very fastest $$$ processors on single core (9950X). I'm ignoring the Intel Core Ultras because I don't need those problems in my life.
