- brandon_pampuch 1y agoPalestinians are a people so yes it is legal. That is like saying is it legal to employ Russians.
- throwawaysleep 1y agoI would be surprised if it were straightforwardly legal to employ or contract with Russians in the post Ukraine invasion landscape.
- brandon_pampuch 1y agoIt is.
- jameshilliard 1y agoIsn't it generally illegal in the US with some exclusions for smaller companies for an employer to recruit new employees in a way that discriminates against them because of their race, color, religion, sex (including transgender status, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information?
- brandon_pampuch 1y agoyou can hire people remotely from all parts of the world. Also, MENA is a region of the world and this is inclusive not exclusive.
- jameshilliard 1y ago> you can hire people remotely from all parts of the world. If a company is small enough that the rules don't apply, then national origin or racial discrimination may be legal, still probably not a good idea. > Also, MENA is a region of the world and this is inclusive not exclusive. I believe that would fall under "national origin" discrimination rules.

- vFunct 1y agoNo, it's not illegal. There is no law saying you can't hire Palestinians, no matter how hard Israelis try to get you to believe that. Thanks.
- demodulation 1y agoIsraelis don't want you to think you can't hire Palestinians.

- brandon_pampuch 1y agoThis is not a political post. It is just a post to discuss a tech opportunity.

- brandon_pampuch 1y agoI'm guessing this is sarcasm. I am not here to talk politics either. Just a way to help startups grow. MENA countries (Palestine included) are near the third largest tech hub in the world. They have worked in YC startups and are insanely talented. I have had them beat out FAANG engineers for roles in the United States.
- polotics 1y agoStrange that a tech piece about a company would get so much flak. Would the people flagging this please write a piece explaining why collective punishment is fair and/or has ever made any situation better in the short/medium/long term?
- daft_pink 1y agoDirectly answering your question that's not necessarily related to the above article. This is how I think people flagging this article view it: Specifically sourcing talent from an active war zone from an area controlled by terrorists seems like a terrible idea because: * You might end up supporting terrorism or indirectly support the government that has taken innocent hostages * Can someone in an active war zone really provide reliable service * You might run a foul of your government, since where you live might be actively supporting the other side and it might end up being treasonous. I'm not sure that choosing sides during a war with impractical business decisions is somehow advocating for collective punishment.
- brandon_pampuch 1y agoAgain, I don't want to make this political because that isn't what this forum is about, but I do take issue with some of the foundations of your argument.
- brandon_pampuch 1y agoI appreciate the sentiment. I am trying not to get this post banned because it is actually a great way to help founders grow their companies!
