Only after it's too late for Gaza, will the West give Israel a slap on the wrist. After some half-assed sanctions they will be best buddies again and the sanctions will be lifted silently. Then they'll turn a blind eye when Israel continues with annexing the West Bank. They will paint themselves as the victim for having to take that land. And the West will nod and stand by them. Israel knows that they can get away with it because they always do. For them, it's worth taking some "reputational damage" in the short run, because it's worth it in the long run.
